Branching Narratives for Intercultural Learning
Date
April 2025
Location
San Diego State University
Project type
Research
This project uses 180-degree interactive video simulations to build intercultural competence among communication students. It immerses learners in branching narratives exploring microaggressions and bystander choices. Thematic analysis of focus groups revealed that students identified emotionally with characters, reflected on conflict styles, and critiqued design limitations. This mixed methods project demonstrates how interactive storytelling can enhance student engagement, support experiential learning, and inform data-driven approaches to intercultural education.
